La Chorba

Social

Presentation

La Chorba is a secular association born in 1998 from the will to fight against hunger and social exclusion.

Its creation was based on a simple observation: the number of people who have difficulty feeding themselves is growing, while our system of consumption leads to an enormous amount of food waste on a daily basis.

It all started with the objective of being a link between people in very precarious situations and of revaluing non-marketable but totally consumable foodstuffs.

Over the years, a virtuous chain has developed, combining social and environmental issues through 6 actions: distribution of hot meals, distribution of food parcels, home delivery of parcels, outreach, professional integration and the fight against food waste. Every day, a formidable human chain is activated to make all these actions possible. People from very different social, geographical and cultural backgrounds form an incredible melting pot. It's a huge family where everyone contributes to the building and makes themselves useful in a spirit of fraternity and sharing.

Distribution of hot meals

The meals are prepared by volunteers and salaried staff (Cddi and "Premières heures" contracts) under the direction of the kitchen supervisors. We provide all the stages of this service, from the collection of basic foodstuffs from our partners, to distribution, including the preparation of meals.

In order to welcome as many people as possible to our distribution, we are concerned that the main course should be eaten by everyone. This is why the main course is usually prepared with vegetables or legumes. Meat is also regularly prepared in the soup, in which case it is halal or sometimes kosher. Meals consist of a hot dish, bread, dairy, dessert and/or fruit.

In addition, we offer people who wish to do so, mixed salads and sandwiches from unsold food.

Who is participating?

Volunteers and salaried staff, whether permanent or on integration schemes, take part in every stage of the process, from food collection to meal preparation and distribution.
